Combined Infection Training ST3.
Combined Infection Training in Yorkshire and the Humber
This training programme offers dual training opportunities in Medical Microbiology, Virology, General Internal Medicine.
In order to assess your suitability for this training programme please refer to the Person Specifications on the Specialty Training website.
The expected duration of this training programme is 5 years subject to satisfactory progression. The actual duration may depend on the circumstances of individual trainees.
Trainees in this specialty have the option to train in General Internal Medicine which would result in them having dual accreditation at the end of their training
In Yorkshire we run the following types of infection posts currently as Core infection training and higher specialist training posts
Infectious diseases/Medical Microbiology (ID/MM)
Pure Medical Microbiology (MM)
Infectious Diseases (ID)/General internal medicine (GIM)
Infectious diseases/Virology (ID/V)
We also advertise academic fellow posts from time to time across East/West Yorkshire
Trainees in CIT will have the opportunities of working in the larger centres of Leeds, Bradford and Hull or the smaller but experience rich hospitals in Harrogate, York and Halifax/Calderdale
Between all centres, virtually every medical subspecialty is covered and opportunities for training are therefore vast within a small compact geographical area.
Yorkshire is a delightful place to live and work. The local population is very friendly and house prices/rentals are much more reasonable than other areas of the country which is important to think about when thinking of a longer term appointment and the possibility of staying on as a consultant in a region.
Yorkshire has much going for it. Within easy reach are several National Parks and the Coast and the city centres are culturally rich with a large selection of pop concerts (Leeds FD arena), theatre, opera, orchestral works and musicals regularly performed by the country’s leading musical institutions (e.g Opera North and The Leeds piano competition etc.).
