General Surgery ST3.
General Surgery in Health Education England working across Yorkshire and the Humber
General Surgery includes the sub-specialities of transplantation, hepatopancreatico-biliary, breast, endocrine, upper and lower gastrointestinal surgery. Vascular trainees who entered higher specialty training prior to August 2013 also follow the general surgery curriculum.
General Surgery includes both elective and a significant emergency component. There is an increasing adoption of minimal access surgery for both of them, particularly in upper and lower gastrointestinal surgery. The speciality has close links with diagnostic and interventional radiology, diagnostic and interventional gastroenterology and medical and clinical oncology.

The expected duration of this training programme is 6 years subject to satisfactory progression. The actual duration may depend on the circumstances of individual trainees.
