Deputy Head of School - Medicine
An outstanding individual is sought for the role of Deputy Head of the School of Medicine. There are 3 deputies who, along with the Head of School, are responsible for the Quality Assurance of the School of Medicine training programmes in line with the standards laid out by the General Medical Council, Health Education England and the Royal College of Medicine curriculum. The Heads of School team is also responsible for the Quality Management and delivery of educational resource at trust/provider level. Together with the Lead School Deputy Postgraduate Dean they will be responsible for identifying the service implications of new ways of working, which are contingent on providing programmes in line with the new curriculum.
Accountable to the Postgraduate Dean through the Deputy Postgraduate Deans and Head of School, the ideal candidate will be an experienced NHS medical professional with a thorough understanding of the postgraduate medical education agenda. He/she will have strong leadership and communication skills, be able to work effectively as a member of a multi-professional team, and be a strategic thinker and implementer, with the ability to successfully deliver major change initiatives in a complex working environment.
The appointee will be seconded to HEE with payment to their current employer at the rate of up to 2 PAs/sessions per week (negotiable) on the NHS Consultant Pay Scale. For consultants the employing Trust will therefore remain the post-holder’s employer. It is expected that the employing Trust will have given prior agreement (at least tacitly) to the application.
Duration: 3 year tenure initially
Sessions/Grade: 2PAs / Sessions – initially 1PA as job share with the current Deputy Head of School to facilitate handover for a maximum of 3 months
