Neurosurgery in Yorkshire and the Humber

Neurosurgery encompasses the diagnosis, assessment and surgical management of disorders of the nervous system. The specialty developed in the first half of the twentieth century through the treatment of cranial trauma and intracranial mass lesions. Subsequent advances in microsurgical techniques, non-invasive imaging, neuro-anaesthesia, intensive care, image-guided surgery, and the introduction of sophisticated radio-oncological and interventional treatments have changed and widened the scope of neurosurgical practice.

The training programme reflects developments taking place in the clinical neurosciences and the requirements of service delivery

The expected duration of this training programme is 6 years subject to satisfactory progression. The actual duration may depend on the circumstances of individual trainees.

Health Education England working across Yorkshire and the Humber has one vacancy at ST1.

Start Dates

This recruitment process is for posts commencing from August 2015.

Programme Information

Rotation Details

ST1 trainees will rotate through posts in Neurology, Neuro-Intensive Care and Neurosurgery. ST2 trainees spend a period of up to 4-6 months in another surgical speciality or Accident & Emergency. The remaining years ST3-8 are entirely Neurosurgical. The final years (ST6-8) incorporate a year of special interest training.
