The Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust SAS Project Leadership Programme - Natalie Lyth, SAS Tutor, HDFT
At Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust we have been running an exceptionally successful Project Leadership Programme for our SAS Doctors. Nine doctors signed up to the programme and together they are leading on 8 separate projects. The projects are ones that they have identified as being important to improving quality in the areas in which they work. See attached document for information

PLAB Examiner
The General Medical Council is currently recruiting doctors to become PLAB examiners. For the first time, mainly due to the efforts of Mr Victor Babu, Associate Specialist in Surgery from Wales, the GMC is allowing SAS doctors to apply. With the proposed UKMLA ( United Kingdom Medical Licensing Assessment), a licensing exam for all doctors including UK graduates, likely to become a reality, the GMC is likely to need more such examiners.

OSCE Examiner
This role is much in demand by medical schools. SAS doctors, with their broad experience and specialist knowledge, are ideally suited to taking up this role.
You will receive a half-day of face-to-face training, followed by an annual on-line top-up training session.
Your commitment will be to examine on up to three or four days each year. You will find that mentioning to your trainees that you are an OSCE examiner provides a powerful incentive for them to sit up and listen!

Specialist Advisor to the CQC
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is actively recruiting hospital doctors to work alongside their Inspectors as Specialist Advisors.
SAS doctors are ideally suited to this role, as we are senior clinicians with considerable experience across a broad range of specialties.
