Training and Education

The Faculty of Public Health (FPH) provide the training curriculum for public health registrars. More information on the curriculum can be found in the About Your Programme section or direct from the FPH website

The Yorkshire and Humber public health training programme offers a wealth of training opportunities for our registrars, many of which are described in more detail within this section.

Opportunities for registrars to become competent in teaching and presenting are also available within the programme, at the local medical schools in Yorkshire, and at regional events.

In addition, exam revision courses and mock exams are provided locally, and are described in more detail.

Study leave is in line with the 2 training phases, in line with the new Curriculum. 

Phase 1:

  • MPH Programme at ScHARR or York University;
  • Top up modules as necessary
  • 10 Day Part A Revision Programme – ScHARR
  • Mock OSPHE (Part B) Programme;

Phase 2

  • Media Training;
  • Public Health Law;
  • Writing for Publication
  • PHE Conference (linked to PHE attachment)
  • Faculty Conference (Final year of training)
  • Preparation for Interview training

Training/support available throughout the programme:

Registrars are also invited to attend other in house training for Educational Supervisors.  This includes:

  • Influencing and Negotiation Skills; Power, Politics and Persuasion
  • New Curriculum;
  • E-portfolio;
  • Feedback Skills
  • Benchmarking
  • Sustainability

These are full costed and included in the School Business Plan.

End of training:

Acting up opportunities of 3 months towards the end of training.
