We offer superb training in a range of specialties, delivered by experienced and committed trainers in a range of leading centres.

Today’s medicine, in all its various specialities, requires modern, accurate and dynamic pathology based services. The School of Pathology covers a very large area, delivering care to the population of approximately 5.5 million. Training activity is delivered at the teaching hospitals in Sheffield, Leeds, York and Hull interlinking with many district hospitals providing high quality platforms for education. The range of practice at district general and teaching hospital is guaranteed to stimulate Postgraduate Doctors in Training (PGDiTs), with centres of training excellence throughout. The school is developing plans to integrate training of scientist in the pathology disciplines, and develop into a truly multi-professional school.

The School we offer training programmes in the following specialties

  • Chemical Pathology, including Metabolic Medicine
  • Infection, to include Microbiology, Virology and Infectious Diseases
  • Histopathology
  • Diagnostic Neuropathology
  • Paediatric & Perinatal Pathology

Living in Yorkshire and Humber brings many benefits. The population is renowned for its individual character and friendly demeanour. Low house prices, great transport links to other parts of the UK and Europe by road, rail, air and sea. An average house price of £179k 34% below the national average of £272k. Affordability applies to cosmopolitan inner city life, quieter suburbia, a host of smaller towns, and a wealth of rural countryside.

For the great outdoors choose between the Peak District, the Yorkshire Dales or the North Yorkshire Moors. All outdoor pursuits are all catered for in spectacular countryside, from a gentle stroll through Nidderdale, to a clamber up Stanage Edge or an epic cycle up the Rosedale Chimney, the choice is yours.

For arts and culture there is be plenty to find. Historic York is on the main line, as are a range of museums, galleries and historic sites, including the world heritage site of Fountains Abbey. Yorkshire is a sporting centre, both for participation and viewing. Since hosting the Tour de France Grand Depart in 2014 it has become a hub for international cycling. Test Match cricket features at Headingley, top flight football is here to stay, rugby league resides in its heartland, and even snooker is indelibly linked with the Crucible Theatre.
