Welcome to York GP Training Scheme

The York GP Training Scheme was established in 1971 and was one of the first GP Training Schemes in the UK. In recent years our scheme has expanded, we currently support over 80 trainees. Everyone involved with the York Scheme is enthusiastic about teaching, education and pastoral support, and committed to offering doctors the best possible experience of GP Training.

The GPST Team are organised, approachable and actively support every trainee to ensuring they have a positive experience of GP Training. To enable this we have established excellent working relationships across primary and secondary care, which has resulted in trainees being able to attend GP Teaching and feel well supported in post.

York GP Training Scheme has a long tradition of great education, innovation and a high exam pass rate. Trainees tell us the GP Teaching we offer is useful and we are quick to respond to feedback. Our GP teaching is focused on helping trainees become competent and confident GPs, and pass their AKT and CSA. We use and value traditional teaching methods but are also keen to broaden our trainees learning experience though more novel and stimulating ways to learn.
