Neurosurgery

Neurosurgery training is a run-through training programme. Entry is at the ST1 level with ST1/ST2/ST3 the initial stage, ST4/ST5 the intermediate stage and ST6/7/8 the final. A national neurosurgical selection committee appoints and allocates trainees.

ST1 trainees will rotate through Neurology, Neuro-Intensive Care and Neurosurgery. ST2 spend a period of up to 4-6 months in another surgical speciality or Accident & Emergency.
The remaining years ST3-8 are entirely Neurosurgical. The final years (ST6-8) incorporate a year of special interest training.

National recruitment is coordinated by Health Education England working across Yorkshire and the Humber and admits trainees to ST1, 2 and 3.

Trainees start or rotate on the first Wednesday of October.

The hospitals included on the Neurosurgery rotation are as follows:

North South
Leeds General Infirmary Hull Royal Infirmary
  Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield
