SuppoRTT Peer Mentoring

Our SuppoRTT peer mentoring programme is open to all Yorkshire and Humber Postgraduate Doctors in Training (PGDiTs) who are currently out of training.

You can have up to 4 sessions with a trained peer mentor if you are currently out of training, or are planning on going out of training and have completed an absence planning form.

Peer mentors are Postgraduate Doctors in Training (PGDiTs) who have undertaken peer mentoring training and are interested in supporting others.  Your peer mentoring relationship is confidential and is completely independent from your training pathway.

We use a system called MentorNet to manage the peer mentoring process. Once you have decided that you would like to engage with the peer mentoring programme, you will need to create an account on MentorNet and follow the process to choose yourself a mentor.

If you create a MentorNet account but do not choose a mentor within three months, then your account will be deactivated. If this occurs you can return in the future to pursue peer mentoring, please contact us  and we will be able to reactivate your account.

What is Peer Mentoring?

Peer mentoring is a safe non-judgemental space providing time and opportunity to discuss your needs and priorities on returning to work, where you feel valued and heard, with practical support where needed.

Mentoring will be led by the mentee’s agenda and bespoke to their needs.

Mentoring is holistic and recognises that mentees are whole people with full lives, and as such mentees can discuss anything relevant to themselves.

The mentor and mentee will agree in advance arrangements for sessions and time/communication boundaries, e.g., duration and frequency of sessions, best mode of contact.

Providing Feedback on your Peer Mentoring Experience

Once you have completed your peer mentoring sessions on MentorNet you will be invited to complete an evaluation survey.  Results will be amalgamated and used to inform requirements for future provision of the service.  All information will be treated in the strictest confidence and anonymised for reporting purposes. Your feedback is really valuable in helping us shape the best service for Postgraduate Doctors in Training (PGDiTs) – please do complete the survey.  Thank you in advance.
