Primary care practices in more deprived areas try and address health inequalities by providing personalised care and involving patients in service development. Patient Participation Groups (PPGs) and similar entities are now a core contractual requirement for GP surgeries but the level of activity and engagement in this sphere is inconsistent.
Potential projects may include:
- Reviewing CQC reports regarding patient participation(PPG activity) in Deep End practices in Y&H and understanding any associations between deprivation and patient engagement
- Develop networks and collaborate with stakeholders such as Fairhealth, community, secondary and third sector organisations to help understand better which strategies support meaningful patient engagement
- Develop resources including educational resources for Deep End GP surgeries in Y&H to support them with developing / engaging with their PPGs
- Help develop and run educational sessions for wider GP and practice networks (e.g. Y&H Summer and Autumn Schools, GP Trainer workshops) to disseminate learning around barriers and enablers to patient engagement in primary care in deprived populations
- Work with Senior Management Team (SMT) educational leaders at Y&H HEE to develop resources for GP trainees toeducate the next generation of GPs about how to support meaningful patient engagement in primary care
