A clinical fellow is required to lead the development of a simulation programme for training healthcare workers in the safe PPE use for assessment and management of patents with suspected or confirmed High Consequence Infectious Diseases (HCID). A validated training dummy has been developed using differently coloured fluorochrome markers in excreta (cough, vomit, sweat and diarrhoea) which show up under UV light. The appointee would be expected to develop the simulation scenarios using this dummy, bring together a faculty, pilot a training course, obtain feedback and refine it. By the end of the year the training programme should be sufficiently developed that it can become self-funding for the longer term. The fellow will be attached to the Department of Infection and Tropical Medicine at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield, but there is an expectation for time being spent liaising with staff at other NHS trusts in the region, plus the national HCID units. The fellow will build on existing links to the national HCID network, with participation in meetings to present their work and support future plans. Undertaking a leadership or educational qualification during the year, such as the Mary Seacole fellowship, will be encouraged. Opportunities are available for mentorship by and shadowing of senior leaders within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. Please contact Dr Anne Tunbridge, Consultant in Infectious Diseases at STH for more information.
