Workforce, training and education
Yorkshire and Humber

The GMC has now approved the RCPCH Progress+ proposal, which is the college’s response to the shape of training review.  This will come into force for all paediatric trainees in September 2023.

Progress+ builds on the implementation of the Progress curriculum, which enables more flexible and more generic training and puts the training structure into place to support this.

Our aim is that training will be better – more flexible, shorter and offering many more training opportunities for all trainees, whether they are in core or speciality training. We are working with local departments to improve training in departments and we are reviewing our school delivered training. The school is working towards ensuring that we have the right number and type of posts in place to decrease the number of gaps in the system and to support training. We are encouraging trainees to take up out of programme opportunities and to work in posts where they can improve their generic competencies.

The school has a regular SOT working group and is offering regular updates for trainers and trainees on the forthcoming changes.  In this section you will find further information on Progress+ including a FAQ document and contacts for any further questions. The College website is also an excellent source of further information and you can find their details within this section.

Please make sure you know all you need to know about the forthcoming changes and be reassured that these are aimed on improving your training. The paediatric support team, your TPDs and educational supervisors and I are very happy to answer any additional queries or worries you may have about these changes.
