Training Programmes

Trainees in Psychiatry enter core training which generally lasts three years. During this time they follow the core curriculum as described by the Royal College of Psychiatrists. They gain experience in different specialties and obtain Membership of the College. Following this they move into higher training in one of the six specialties:

• General Adult Psychiatry
• Old Age Psychiatry
• Forensic Psychiatry
• Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
• Intellectual Disability Psychiatry
• Psychotherapy

Entry to higher training is by open competition but trainees from the school have a strong history of going on to obtaining places in the deanery in the specialty of their choice. For both the Core and Specialty Curriculums, please visit the Royal College of Psychiatrists website.
