Returning to Training

Many trainees take time out of clinical work for a number of reasons including parental leave, research, OOPE and health reasons. Coming back to clinical work can be both a highly stressful and difficult time for the trainee.

The Yorkshire and the Humber School of Medicine has taken a national leading approach towards improving this time and facilitating an accelerated return to training including support for both educational days and simulation.

We have written guidance below that helps explain the options available to you. There are requirements for trainees and their supervisors who have taken more than 3 months out to follow but this guidance is applicable to anyone who's taken any time out however short if they feel they want to follow it. This guidance is applicable to all trainees within the School of Medicine from the start of Core Medical Training and right through specialty training.

This should be viewed alongside the HEE Returning to Training Policy.
