Set in the heart of Yorkshire, the Harrogate district is one of the most spectacular areas of England with attractive towns and villages, historic houses, castles and beautiful countryside yet still within reach of the coast and city-life. We may be biased but Harrogate frequently features in UK polls exploring the ‘best places to live in the UK’.

After its waters were discovered in the 16th century, Harrogate grew as a popular destination with the waters being regarded as a health treatment drawing visitors and boosting the wealth of the town. Magnificent examples of Georgian architecture are prominent to this day. Central to Harrogate is ‘The Stray’ a vast open area of land at the heart of the town. Harrogate is enriched with unique boutique shops and a vibrant restaurant scene and is home of the famous Betty’s Bakery and tearoom, can you resist a Fat Rascal? Notable visitor attractions include RHS Harlow Carr, Ripley Castle and Valley Gardens. Harrogate has a large conference centre and showground which hosts the ‘Great Yorkshire’ agricultural show annually and brings many tourists to the area.

Harrogate is nestled between the Yorkshire Moors and Yorkshire Dales, both spectacular and easily accessible. Whilst a number of training practices are within Harrogate and nearby Knaresborough, training practices within the scheme are located across the Harrogate District, from Wetherby and Tadcaster in the east, to Boroughbridge and Thirsk in the north and Nidderdale to the west. The variety of practices offer trainees a breath of exposure, including access to more rural general practice.
