Leeds is a city in West Yorkshire, England. It is built around the River Aire and is in the eastern foothills of the Pennines.

In 2011, Leeds had a population of 474,632. It is a diverse city with over 75 ethnic groups, and with ethnic minorities representing just under 11.6% of the total population. Leeds has the most diverse economy of all the UK's main employment centres and has seen the fastest rate of private sector jobs growth of any UK city.
The city centre has a large pedestrian zone and Leeds is home to one of the largest indoor markets in Europe. There are several large parks within Leeds. Roundhay Park being one of the largest city parks in Europe.
The city has five universities. Elland Road and Headingley Stadium are well known to football, rugby and cricket fans and the First Direct Arena frequently hosts renowned live music acts.

Available Specialities
There are a wide range of speciality post available as part of the scheme. These include emergency medicine, acute and general medicine, cardiology, ENT, elderly medicine, psychiatry, obstetrics and gynaecology, oncology and haematology, paediatrics, palliative care, renal, respiratory, rheumatology and stroke.
As part of training all trainees undertake an innovative post which involves spending 6 months in a shared post within a GP practice and a specialty setting. Innovative posts are offered in medical specialities (stroke, respiratory, cardiology, renal, rheumatology), rehabilitation, frailty, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, sexual health, palliative care, psychiatry, microbiology, genetics, oncology and haematology and homeless.
About the Scheme
Leeds is a large and popular scheme.
There are about 45 practices across the city that are involved in GP training and at most of these there is more than one GP trainer involved in supervision of trainees. Hence there are often a few trainees at each practice.
Most trainees in secondary care posts are based at Leeds Teaching Hospitals mainly at St James’ University Hospital or Leeds General Infirmary, though there are also post based at Chapel Allerton Hospital. Other posts include those in conjunction with Leeds and York Partnership Foundation Trust and Leeds Community Healthcare as well as others based at for example local hospices
