Health misinformation (false information) and disinformation (where false information is deliberately spread to deceive) pose a major challenge to public health through preventing people from making informed health decisions and amplifying health threats.

Emerging evidence about measures to combat health mis/disinformation has not yet been translated into action at a regional or local level. The regional public health system including the Y&H Association of Directors of Public Health (ADPH) are keen to explore the consequences of mis/disinformation and its interaction with health literacy, and tackle these issues to improve health and reduce inequalities.

The fellow will be embedded in the Y&H Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID). The fellow will collaborate with partners (e.g. local, regional and national government, VCSEs, academia, ICSs), and may engage the public to understand the priorities and needs of different communities.

The fellow will be supported to scope and lead their own project. Potential outputs include resources that develop our understanding of the role of mis/disinformation in shaping public health outcomes and inequalities in health, support evidence-based action at a local level, and build capacity across the public health system.

Commercial determinants of health (CDoH) describe how industry affects health, including harm from tobacco, alcohol, unhealthy food, gambling and fossil fuels. These result in substantial societal and healthcare costs, and disproportionately impact deprived communities. A prevention approach to these harms can ease pressure on NHS services by reducing NCD burden, aligning with priorities of the 10 Year Health Plan for England.

National consideration of CDoH is growing, with regional and local work underway. The fellow will be embedded in the Y&H Office for Health Improvement and Disparities team. The Fellow will collaborate with key stakeholders across the system: the NHS, ICSs, local, regional and national government, ADsPH, academia, and VCSEs including Action on Smoking and Health. The Fellow may also work with communities to engage the public on relevant issues.

This post will build upon previous work by scaling up work strategically between places, regions and nationally to approach risk factors for ill health in combination. The broad and evolving nature of CDoH work means the Fellow will have autonomy (but be supported) to shape and develop their project. Outputs may include evidence-based resources, research contributions, and progressing cross-organisational activities.

This post will fully integrate you into the LTHT radiology department and all levels of management within this. The main project is to improve the efficiency of acute and urgent ambulatory CT, making best use of this finite resource. We support personal development of management through mentoring, participation in our daily management shop floor management, weekly Tri team and monthly quality assurance meetings as well as access to the LIM Training courses and support via the LTHT FLP peer group.

As radiology is integral to many care pathways, there are endless opportunities to make links with other CSUs. No clinical duties attached to this post. We are looking for a candidate who can fully participate in our operational management and find innovative solutions to chronic problems of patient flow through acute CT and growing demand for a service with limited capacity.

There are opportunities to look at digital innovation through integration of the NHS app with ambulatory imaging pathways and patient directed access to urgent tests. There may be opportunities to expand the project to other urgent ambulatory imaging such as the jaundice pathway.

We welcome candidates from a diverse background who can support innovation and reduce inequality in access to acute imaging services.

Are you passionate about fostering leadership in healthcare and empowering others? Do you want focused time out from clinical commitments to develop your leadership skills? We want to hear from you.

As the fellow to the FLP you will work directly with the Associate Dean in order to ensure the smooth running and development of the programme. You will have unique insight into how the programme works and what is available to fellows as well as the opportunity to work closely with and build relationships with all fellows across the region.

The post holder will be involved in the organisation of regular development days and additional courses which also provides an opportunity to speak with and build connections with leaders outwith the programme itself. You will be responsible for leading the Steering Group meetings at the deanery level in order to further expand and develop the programme based on the feedback received from your cohort. You will also play a pivotal role in the bid selection, course offerings and recruitment for following years. The role also includes working as co-chair to organise and deliver the annual Future Leaders conference. Furthermore, by working closely with the programme support team, you will develop a deeper understanding of NHS structure and finance which will give you insight into the way in which organisational structure can impact on implementing change at the local, regional and national level.

Working directly with Dr Susy Stirling, you will have fantastic supervision from a knowledgeable supervisor who can help you to design a bespoke experience which will help you make the most of your year – whatever that means to you. You will have some flexibility to explore areas of interest and to undertake a funded professional qualification such as a PGCert or equivalent

The key responsibilities have been summarised below:

  • Drive engagement and awareness of the NHS England Future Leadership Program.
  • Work with the programme administrators to support management of queries, website development, budget management and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to review post graduate education and future leaders training rolling programme curriculum and courses offered.
  • Organise and host leadership themed bimonthly events for the fellowship cohort.
  • Chair the future leaders annual conference committee.
  • Build relationships with fellow cohorts and point of contact for any issues within the programme.
  • Create an annual report at the end of the year, summarising the achievements of the cohort.

What We Offer:

  • Opportunity to develop personal, team and organisational leadership skills
  • Opportunity to complete a funded PGCert or equivalent, relevant to leadership
  • Collaborative and supportive team environment.

Differential attainment (DA) refers to disparities in achievement between different demographic groups of postgraduate doctors and dentists in training. It can occur at recruitment, examinations and ARCPs. When differential outcomes are connected to protected characteristics, such as age, gender or ethnicity, it suggests inequalities may exist within training.

The DA Fellow will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of an inclusive training culture, by developing and evaluating interventions that aim to reduce DA amongst postgraduate doctors and dentists in training from ethnic minority backgrounds. They will build upon the work of past Fellows by reviewing annual attainment data to identify improvements and effective past actions, continuing the coordination and delivery of the deanery's Reverse Mentoring Scheme and aligning local activity to the aims and objectives of NHS England's Workforce Training and Education Directorate, as well as external organisations like the GMC.

This post provides an excellent opportunity to engage and build relationships with senior stakeholders across the region, collate and promote best practice, and lead the development of initiatives that seek to improve the training culture to foster achievement of the NHS People Promise.
