Seminar / Training Days.

Welcome to the seminar program page. The content is based on the published curriculum and follows the exam format for the FRCS(Urol). Trainees on the South Yorkshire scheme are expected to attend training days specific to them as are Yorkshire and Humber trainees, please choose the appropriate programme below.

Yorkshire Seminar Programme

The day is chaired by a supervising consultant who together with the allocated trainees plans and delivers the day as outlined below.

The designated trainee is responsible for planning the day in conjunction with the supervising consultant – agreeing content, invited guests etc – this planning needs to take place well in advance (I would suggest 3 months) so that invited guests have sufficient time to apply for special leave (6 weeks notice required). You should aim to have at least one expert at each seminar day to deliver a key address – some choices are obvious ie Renal Medicine requires a nephrologist, non surgical oncology treatments requires a radiotherapist etc – be resourceful. The talks need to be evidence based and refer to published guidelines particularly European Association of Urology. A provisional program will be emailed to the Program Director no later than 2 months before the event. Copies of the presentations need to be saved on the available memory stick and left with my secretary so that they can be added to the learning resource.

The venues are as indicated, meetings commencing sharply at 10am and aiming to finish by 4pm, Fridays unless stated. Lunch is provided.

Could I also remind you that attendance is compulsory for all trainees (including those who have successfully completed the FRCS(Urol)) and that a minimum of 70% attendance is required. Trainees unable to attend need to email the Program Director well in advance. The attendance register needs to be signed and returned to my secretary.

My thanks once again to the supervising consultants for giving up their valuable time to help ensure the success of this important educational event.

South Yorkshire Training Programme

The training days are for a whole day each month. Mr D Shipstone in Chesterfield organises the training days with a plan that the whole syllabus will be covered every two years. There will inevitably be a few things not covered which you need to ensure you learn through self directed learning and other courses.
Some of the training days are structured primarily for the S Yorks SPRs whilst others for a larger audience including SPRs from the rest of Yorkshire +/- those from the East Midlands rotation.
Attendance is compulsory for all trainees (including those who have successfully completed the FRCS(Urol)) and that a minimum of 70% attendance is required. Trainees unable to attend need to email the Mr Shipstone well in advance. The attendance register needs to be signed.
Training days aim to offer a mix of some didactic lectures, interactive discussion, SPR presentations and viva practice.

Further details about training dates to be added soon.
