Subspecialty Training.

The following sub-specialties are delivered within Yorkshire and the Humber:

  • Gynaecology Oncology
  • Reproductive Medicine
  • Urogynaecology
  • Fetomaternal Medicine

These posts are advertised and recruited to by the NHS England Yorkshire and Humber Recruitment Team. Appointment is through open competition involving a structured interview process.

To be eligible to enter subspecialty training, you need to:

  • Hold a UK national training number
  • Successful completion of clinical training to ST5 or ST6 level, confirmed by outcome 1 in most recent ARCP
  • Have passed the Part 3 MRCOG
  • Completion of the intermediate ultrasound module in normal fetal anatomy is mandatory for entry to subspecialty training in Maternal and Fetal Medicine

Once you have been appointed to subspecialty training, you’ll need to register with the RCOG’s Subspecialty Committee. You must do this on appointment to subspecialty training.

There is a research component included in the sub-specialty training. This will need to be completed unless you are research exempt. Exemption criteria is available here
If you reach the end of subspecialty training without satisfying the research criteria, you will be offered a maximum of six months extension to complete the research element, at the discretion of the Postgraduate Dean.

It is possible to apply for out of programme training (OOPT), to complete sub-specialty training outside of Yorkshire and the Humber. This requires the approval of both the current region and the region where the training will take place. Applications for OOPT must be made at least 3 months in advance of the start date and require prosepctive approval by both the RCOG and the GMC.
