Increasing GP Training Placements at Practices in Yorkshire and the Humber

The GP School will be offering a one-off payment to practices to support them to increase their GP training capacity. The offer will also be available to new to training practices. The payment will be £10K for an extra full-time GP training placement and £5K for an extra 50-60% GP training placement.

Differential Attainment

Differential attainment (DA) is is how we refer the gap in attainment levels between different groups of doctors.

The Yorkshire and the Humber GP School has developed several interventions for GP Trainers and Postgraduate Doctors in Training (PGDiTs) to help close this gap.

You can read more about these interventions and how they can help in our presentation on Tackling Differential Attainment, and by watching our video below.

Training Support

Structure of support team

  1. Possible training support issue identified by CS/ES/TPD/Centrally
  2. Speak to Scheme Training Support TPD (each scheme should have a nominated TPD)
  3. TPD will give advice and support/may meet with the PGDiT.

If TPD needs more help/ support/advice

  • Training Support Locality Lead

They may advise, support and/or meet with PGDiT

  • AD Training Support

They can advise/support, get clarity from SMT regarding difficult decision etc

  • Head of School

Give further guidance/escalate issues

Issues that may lead to a PGDiT being referred through to Training support

  •  Repeated or significant Exam fails

  • Outcome 2/3 at ARCP

  • Scheme concerns

  • Persistent non engagement with eportfolio

  • SUIs

  • GMC conditions

  • Health concerns

  • Very early sometimes.  (Is the PGDiT at the expected level for ST1?)

Courses currently offered under training support

  • Exam courses and support - Enhanced AKT support course, Enhanced RCA support course, workshops and 1:1 support (see separate flow diagrams below)

  • Booster courses – one a year for each ST year group – for trainees who are under central training support needing that additional level of support, already having/very high risk of needing additional training time and extra support

  • Study skills course – looking at approaching study, reducing exam related anxiety (not exam specific information)

  • Linguistics Skills – as well as session arranged under DA if there are specific issues 1:1 sessions can be arranged on a case by case basis.
