Geography

The Dewsbury, Pontefract and Wakefield (West Riding) General Practice Specialty Training Programme is close to Leeds with good road links due to the network of motorways running through our area. The West Riding General Practice Specialty Training Programme has hospital posts in all of the sites of the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust - Dewsbury, Wakefield and Pontefract, and Specialist Training GP Registrars posts in the surrounding areas. Dewsbury is the newer of the three hospitals and the most recent to join Pinderfields and Pontefract General Infirmary. Building work has started on a major redevelopment at both Pinderfields and Pontefract.

Profile

West Riding General Practice Specialty Training Programme aims to provide 'excellence in General Practice training' and hopes that doctors who train with them will develop patient centred consulting skills, learn evidence based general practice and become reflective practitioners to sustain their personal and professional development in the future.

All Specialist Training Registrars will spend six months in the second year either in a General Practice training post (specially for doctors who have not done any general practice in FY2) or a modular post (part time specialist training, based in general practice, for doctors who have already some general practice in FY2). Such modular posts include Community Women's Health, Palliative Care Medicine and Community Dermatology.
