Associate Dean for SAS Updates.

Dear SAS Tutors and SAS Colleagues,

I hope this finds you well. I am writing my second Regional Tutor update following our website going live.

I am pleased to report that despite the changes in the funding arrangements from last year that the spending on SAS career and professional development has been strong in most trusts.

Your local SAS Tutors has been arranging many different courses relevant to your development needs and sharing access to these courses across the region.

Some of the SAS Leads have recently had training in mentoring to further enable them to support the SAS grades in their trusts.

We are also arranging the 2017 SAS Biennial Regional Conference at Tankersley Manor, and have an excellent line up of inspirational speakers and great workshops. Keep Oct 6th free in your diary.

A new document entitled SAS Doctor Development was published last week, it is a joint document by the Academy of Royal Colleges, the BMA, Heath Education England and NHS Employers. This document builds on the SAS Charter and outlines guidelines on the actions by Employers and ourselves to support our development. This is a very interesting read and I would recommend it to you. You can find this document along with others relevant to us in the resourses section.

I am always interested to hear any comments about your experiences as an SAS grade, good or bad. Please call or e-mail.

If you have any questions or comments about these issues please make contact with your local SAS Tutor.

Best wishes

Mark
