There has been a major change in the organisation and regulation of post graduate medical education over the last decade, the GMC now being the responsible body. The Royal College of Anaesthetists produce the curriculum which is then approved by the GMC. The GMC dictate how the assessment and appraisal processes work. All Educational and Clinical supervisors must be approved by the GMC. More detailed information about the Anaesthetic Curriculum can be found on the Royal College of Anaesthetists website.
Throughout the stages of training trainees will have an Annual Assessment of Competence Progression (ARCP) and provided the outcome is satisfactory, trainees will be allowed to progress to the next stage of training.
